Editorial Review for Price's Chicken Coop – by Geoff Lutton
In Short
Ten minutes after noon, patrons find a good kind of chaos when coming for chicken. Customers find a good place to wait among the bustling crowd the couple of minutes until their order is boxed and bagged. Price's has been selling fried chicken to every social class for decades. It's takeout-only, always hot, always greasy, always moist, and really, really good.

OK I TOOK MY BOYFRIEND TO CHARLOTTE (WE LIVE IN VA) FOR HIS BIRTHDAY IN JANUARY OF 08' TO SEE THE PISTONS VS BOBCATS(HE'S A DIE HARD PISTONS FAN) BUT ANYWAY WE WERE GONNA BE THERE FOR 3 DAYSAND I WANTED US TO EAT AT LOCAL RESTAURANTS ONLY SO I SURFED THE NET TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY HAD TO OFFER AND RAN ACROSS PRICE'S. WELL NEEDLESS TO SAY I BROUGHT INTO THE HYPE OF THE PLACE AND SOON AS WE TOUCHED DOWN THATS WHERE WE WENT(BAD MOVE) THE FOOD WAS BELOW AVERAGE WE BOTH ORDERED THE CHICKEN WING MEAL WHICH WE DIDNT OPEN UNTIL WE GOT TO OUR ROOM WELL IT HAD MAYBE 6 LITTLE DRUMMETTES,TATER TOTS AND A ROLL. THE CHICKEN WAS TOO HARDWITH NO TASTE AND DID NOT FILL US UP AT ALL. I WAS REALLY EXPECTING SOME BANGIN CHICKEN FROM READING THOSE REVIEWS AND THIS JUST DIDNT CUT IT. THE ONLY REASON I'M WRITING A REVIEW 6MTHS LATER IS BECAUSE I WAS LISTENING TO STEVE HARVEY THE OTHER DAY AND HE'S HAVING HIS ANNUAL HOODIE AWARDS AND IT WAS TIME FOR HIM TO READ THE RESULTS FOR BEST CHICKEN PLACE AND YES YOU GUESSED IT NOT ONLY DID PRICES MAKE THE LIST BUT THEY WERE VOTED NUMBER ONE. WHICH MADE ME ASK DID WE ORDER THE WRONG CHICKEN??????
Pros: WORKERS WERE VERY FRIENDLY
Cons: FOOD WAS BAD

This place is as no-frills as it gets. Cash only, no seating, cinder-block walls. But that's OK--it's about the chicken. And that chicken is phenomenal. Perfectly seasoned, and perfectly cooked. Even the white-meat chicken, which at most places is dried out and bland, was juicy and flavorful. I was quite impressed. The sides are nothing to write home about, but are adequate, and since the focus is so solidly on the chicken, who cares? Very, very good chicken.
Pros: Amazing chicken, cheap
Cons: Sides are merely adequate, but the chicken is so good it doesn't matter
