Editorial Review for Morton's - The Steakhouse – by Citysearch Staff

In Short
With its dark wood details, celebrity photos and tuxedo-clad waiters, this upscale steakhouse chain has the air of a posh men's club. Service is professional and discreet, with bartenders making a mean martini. Dinners begin with a waiter-driven cart laden with fresh vegetables, live lobster and cuts of steak; customers choose from porterhouse, rib-eye, bone-in prime rib and more. Side dishes are traditional and enormous, from baked potatoes and creamed spinach to steamed broccoli with hollandaise.

Morton's Uptown is the epitome of what a steakhouse should be. Crisp white linen, black napkins for those wearing dark clothing, dark mahogany wood and a little Frank Sinatra to set the mood. That's just the opening act for a wonderful evening. Try the Bone-in ribeye, by far the best steak I have ever had. Finished with just a touch of au-jus, that enhances the flavor (not like Ruth's Chris, that masks thiers with melted butter). Lyonaisse potatoes were unreal, crispy with just a hint of bacon, absolutely superb. Finish your dinner with the legendary hot chocolate cake, you won't be able to find a better dessert in town. And if you are a wine lover, this is the place. The sommelier told me he had over 275 different choices and another 25 by the glass. The whold staff is very knowledgable, and not stuffy or pretentious when giving suggestions for wine. Now I have found a new favorite restaurant. Nothing else compares to this. Great food, great service (with out being over-bearing), and a fabolous atmosphere, make for one unbelievable evening.

Pros: Everything down to the complimentary valet.

The steak was okay. However, the dining room was either too hot or too cold. The dining room and tables are way too small. Dining room lack character, which is part of the overall appeal to a place such as Morton's. Go to "The Palm" or "Sullivan's". The food, service and atmosphere are far superior!!

Cons: Food, service, atmosphere, table size, dining room
